Track a container, bill of lading or booking on the operating carrier’s website.
Choose the ocean carrier, copy the correct reference and continue to its official tracking page. Foresmart provides the directory and shipment context; the carrier controls the live container events.
The tracking result depends on the number and operating carrier.
Container number
Four letters followed by seven digits in the common ISO equipment format.
Best for tracking the physical equipment across vessel and terminal events.Master bill of lading
The carrier transport document reference for the main ocean movement.
Useful when several containers move under one master shipment.Carrier booking number
The reservation reference created before the shipment is loaded.
May show booking or equipment status before a B/L is issued.Foresmart shipment reference
The quotation or operating reference used in communication with Foresmart.
Use this when the carrier cannot recognize a house B/L or LCL reference.Select the operating carrier or search by name and code.
Confirm the operating carrier with the booking party or Foresmart shipment contact.
Typical container journey
Carrier wording varies, but the main physical milestones usually follow this sequence.
Space or equipment is reserved; the carrier may not yet have the container.
An empty container is available for pickup or assignment.
The loaded container has entered the origin terminal or carrier custody.
The container is associated with a vessel loading event.
The vessel has left origin or the container is moving through a transfer port.
The vessel arrived and the container was unloaded at destination.
Terminal and customs release may allow pickup or inland delivery.
The equipment was returned after unloading; this does not describe cargo delivery quality.
Do not read every date as a confirmed physical event.
A booking, vessel, flight or delivery plan that can still change.
A carrier-calculated milestone based on available operating data.
A departure, arrival, handoff or delivery scan that has already occurred.
A status that may require documents, payment, approval or carrier follow-up.
Common reasons a result is missing, delayed or incomplete.
First verify the carrier, reference and timestamp before treating a missing scan as a lost shipment.
Wrong ocean carrier
A container may be booked through one party but operated by another shipping line.
House B/L not recognized
Carrier websites may accept only the master B/L, container number or booking number.
No update at sea
Ocean systems often update at terminal and vessel events rather than continuously.
Transshipment change
A connecting vessel or port change can alter the next expected milestone.
Customs or terminal hold
Arrival does not automatically mean the container is available for pickup.
LCL visibility gap
The shared container event does not show every deconsolidation and warehouse milestone.
Carrier tracking shows events; Foresmart can connect them with the shipment scope.
For cargo booked by Foresmart, send the carrier number together with the quotation or shipment reference and the milestone you need clarified.
Contact Shipment SupportCarrier event review
Compare planned sailing, actual departure, arrival, discharge and availability.
House-to-master reference check
Match the Foresmart or consolidator reference to the operating carrier number.
Destination handoff
Clarify customs, terminal, drayage, appointment and final delivery responsibility.
Exception follow-up
Contact the relevant carrier, terminal, broker or delivery partner when Foresmart booked the shipment.
Questions about references, carrier events and shipment support.
The carrier controls its live tracking data. Foresmart can help interpret a shipment booked through the team.
View All Shipping FAQsCan I track an LCL shipment with a container number?
The shared container may be visible, but it will not show every consolidator, deconsolidation or delivery milestone for one LCL shipment.
Why does the carrier reject my B/L number?
You may have a house B/L rather than the master carrier reference. Ask the booking party for the carrier B/L, booking number or container number.
Does “arrived” mean the container is ready for pickup?
No. Discharge, customs release, terminal availability, payment and appointment may still be pending.
Why has tracking not updated while the vessel is at sea?
Many carrier systems update at major port, vessel or terminal events rather than providing continuous GPS visibility.
Can Foresmart change a carrier tracking event?
No. Foresmart can investigate and explain the operating chain, but only the carrier or terminal controls its event data.
Need help interpreting a container event?
Send the carrier, container or B/L number, Foresmart shipment reference and the milestone you need clarified.
